Robin Blumenthal

Living in the Tension

A Conversation with Robin Blumenthal

Adverse Childhood Experiences. Trauma-Informed Care. Robin was first introduced to these terms in the Spring of 2018. Prior to this introduction, she had earned a BS in Child Development & an MA in Social Science. She had worked with children, youth, and families in a variety of faith-based settings for 35+ years. Obviously, she knew that trauma existed, but still, she says she remembers thinking to herself, “How have I not heard about all this before! If I had known this earlier, it would have changed so much about how I did ministry.” Immediately she began to realize that she was not alone; that there were others who also needed to learn what she was only just now discovering.

Four years later, she finds herself having trained thousands as an ACEs Trainer. Whether training educators, foster-care workers, parents, or members of the faith community, she is continually reminded that this is still a relatively new movement, that there are still many who are just now hearing about it, and that the science of understanding the effects of trauma and resilience is growing daily.

Robin shares that she definitely finds herself living in the tension between asking herself “Who am I to be leading in this movement?” and realizing that she is gifted as a mobilizer and that she has something to offer.

In her workshop, “Calling all Lemonade Makers”, she hopes to be able to inspire others to take their next best step towards bringing hope and healing to those around them. Afterall, when your storehouse is full of lemons, you can get a larger storehouse, or start making lemonade!
