Description
This single-session course will be held live over Zoom from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Pacific Time, on Wednesday, September 2.
This course is designed to equip paraeducators with practical knowledge and strategies to better understand and respond to student behavior through a trauma-responsive lens. Participants will explore the NEAR Sciences—Neuroscience, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and Resilience—to deepen their understanding of what drives behavior beyond what is visible in the classroom.
Through guided learning and real-world application, participants will examine the crisis cycle and behavior spectrum, gaining tools to recognize early warning signs and apply effective de-escalation strategies. The course also emphasizes proactive, prevention-focused approaches, supporting paraeducators in creating safe, predictable, and supportive learning environments.
By the end of the course, participants will be better prepared to respond to student needs with empathy, consistency, and skill—strengthening relationships and fostering resilience for both students and themselves.
This course is eligible for three 3 Clock Hours through OSPI.
Please inquire with your instructor(s) for more information prior to beginning your course.
